What is Photomontage?

During the twentieth century, photomontage engaged an important role in both fine art and commercial art. Photomontage consists of composting images from cuttings and pasting photographs. Probably this has been supported by persons who engaged in persuit as well as professionals since after the invention of photography (1830s), however the new century's resumed interest in establishing photographic statements by creating the use of the technique.

Such technique involving photomontage travelled quickly amongst artistic experiments of the early twentieth century to ideas of graphic communication. The techniques' name of 'photomontage' was developed by the dada artists (such as Raoul Hausmann, George Grosz, John Heartfield, Johannes Baader, and Hannah Hoch).

In photomontage like this, done by Hannah Hoch subverted meanings through rupture and juxtaposition.
